With median house prices now reaching £212,000 in England, and £400,000 in London, owning a home is out of the reach of many.
Last year, Homes for Britain called for all political parties to commit to end the housing crisis within a generation. Housing associations play a vital role in this, offering social and affordable rent, and low cost home ownership solutions to those unable to access the market. Indeed, last year one in five homes built by housing associations were for shared ownership.
Now the National Housing Federation is lobbying for more flexibility on how the sector can use government grants, calling for the Government first to build the homes the country needs, and then worry about tenure.
